AT&T to implement new telecom tariffs

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, APRIL 30: With the rationalisation of telecom tariffs by the virtue of Telecommunications Order 1999, Birla AT&T Communications Ltd, cellular service providers for telecom circles of Gujarat and Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai) and Goa will implement this with effect from May 1, 1999.

Subscribers can now avail of TRAI standard tariff package. According to this package, they would have to pay a monthly fee of Rs 600 and be charged for air time at Rs 6 per minute between 9 am to 8 pm. Air time charges for the remaining 13 hours and Sundays and three national holidays would be levied at Rs. 5.70 per minute. As per the tariff order of TRAI billing for air time will be done at intervals of 20 seconds.

The company will also implement the revised local calling rates prescribed by TRAI for DoT. As a result of this, a local call of a maximum 3 minutes duration will be charged at Rs 1.20 as against Rs 1.40. The service tax, however, remains unchanged at 5 per cent.
