All govt school girl students to get stipend

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 30: In an attempt to check the high dropout rate of girls, the Delhi government will provide a yearly stipend to all girl students in government schools, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced yesterday. The stipend will be a positive step towards ensuring education for girls, enabling them to purchase books, stationery items and other educational tools, she said.

Till now the stipend was being paid only to girl students of government schools in rural areas, slums and rehabilitation colonies. The allocation for the scheme is being doubled from Rs 2 crore to Rs 4 crore.
