Four hotels lose health licence

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, April 30: Even as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday took the stringent step of revoking health licences of four restaurants at the busy Jangli Maharaj Road, the administration was shocked to find that Hotel Kamat had blatantly ignored the civic body's refusal to grant them permission for a health licence and continued to operate without one.

Chief medical officer Anil Ravetkar said that orders had been issued on Thursday revoking the health licences of four restaurants for not adhering to the safety norms and cooking at open spaces. The hotels include Kapil Garden, Mulay Snacks, Mathura and Garden Delight. Hotel Kamat also figured in the list when the PMC officials discovered that the restaurant operated without a health licence !

While the building permission department had issued a list of 14 hotels - which had been slapped with criminal complaints for reconstructing demolished illegal structures - to the health department, the latter had carried out a parallel check of the hotels to observe whether they adhered to the safety norms.Notices had been issued to hotels like Shiv Sagar, Sapana, Vaishali, Savera, Shivam, Subhadra and others. The health officials, however, did not find their replies to the show cause notice satisfactory and decided to cancel the health licenses of four hotels. They will re-check the hotels as per the orders of the building permission department.

The building permission department had filed criminal complaints against 14 hotels under section 52 and 53 of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning (MRTP) Act. Anyone convicted under this section could receive a jail term between one month and three years, be fined anything between Rs 2,000 - 5,000.
