Salve in ICC panel to probe match-fixing

 
CALCUTTA, APRIL 30: Lord Griffiths has been appointed chairman of the nine-member International Cricket Council (ICC) code of concuct commission to look into allegations of betting and match-fixing in cricket.

The committee would comprise one nominee from each Test-playing nation and the detailed terms of reference have been approved by the member countries, ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya said here today.

The other members of the committee were Richie Benaud (Australia), NKP Salve (India), Tim Castle (New Zealand), Justice Dr Nasim Hasan Shah (Pakistan), Justice Albie Sachs (South Africa), Desmond Fernando (Sri Lanka) and Don Arnott (Zimbabwe). The West Indies nomination was yet to be finalised.

Dalmiya said the chairman's first task would be to review the recently concluded Australian enquiry conducted by Mr O'Regan.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jayawant Lele, speaking from Baroda, said Salve, BCCI president from 1982-85 and a chartered accountant by profession, was chosen for his knowledge of cricketadministration and understanding of legal matters.
