Plain Speak
Richard Hadlee
Donald Allan Donald is perhaps the fastest bowler in the world today but recent injuries have caused some concern. It is difficult to understand why, when he is so effective with the new red ball in Test cricket, he is reluctant to have first use of the new white ball in one-dayers. Still he is effective in both forms of the game and is a wickettaker. He strives for pace and in doing so he will bowl a short or an over-pitched delivery. A batsman needs to watch the ball very closely and get into position quickly, and be patient and wait for the bad ball. Often, deflections to fine leg and to third man allows the scoreboard to keep moving.Pollock Shaun Pollock is a much improved player and is regarded as the best all round player in the game. He has a very confident and aggressive approach to the game and he wants to make an impression either with the bat or the ball. He bowls fairly straight, is accurate and he bowls at a lively pace swinging and cutting the ball. He appears to likeconfrontations, so a batsman needs to ignore his presence as a person but where possible attack any bowling that is wayward.
