Girl stabbed 34 times by `friend'

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, May 4: In two shocking incidents perpetrated by love-lorn youths, a 12-year-old girl was gruesomely murdered while another escaped miraculously. While one incident occurred at Walchandnagar, another took place at Hadapsar.

Lalita alias Diana Bhajandas Paradhi was savagely done to death by an over-possessive friend as he allegedly stabbed her 34 times on Monday night.

According to the Walchandnagar police, 20-year-old Makrand Sudam Paradhi killed Lalita as he could not stomach her friendship with two other boys living in the same village. Makrand attacked her with a spear and repeatedly stabbed her in the stomach. She died instantaneously. All four are residents of Shelgaon in Indapur taluka.

The police later shifted the body to a nearby hospital. The post-mortem revealed that she had been stabbed 34 times. The police arrested Makrand and he has been remanded to police custody.

In the other case, 20-year-old Asha Shriranga Mandre, a labourer, escaped an alleged murderous assault from her co-worker. Police said Asha had been having an affair with Somnath Pandurang Holkar. They were seen together frequently. They had planned to get married but Asha's mother turned down Holkar's marriage proposal to Asha. A dejected Holkar then requested Asha to meet her at 9 pm outside a grocery shop on Monday.

When an unsuspecting Asha arrived there, he forced her into his jeep (MH-12-PA-3910) and sped away towards the Mutha Right Bank canal. On reaching the canal, he allegedly attempted to throw her into the water. However, Asha did not fall into the water and escaped with minor injuries. She later filed a complaint with the Hadapsar police who arrested Somnath. He has been remanded to police custody.
