Parties welcome EC election dates

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, May 4: Leaders of three major political parties -- the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP) -- have welcomed the Election Commission's move to hold the Parliamentary elections in September-end and October first week.

Though, all the senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party were said to be busy with the State-level meeting at Gandhinagar on Tuesday, senior executive member and director of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Hasmukh Patel said longer the period BJP gets, the better. ``In no wise, the delay would affect BJP prospects. The voter is aware now and has seen the difference between the parties. You will see how Chhotaudepur, Godhra and Anand seats go away from Congress' hands,'' he said. Party's district committee vice president Ghanshyam Dalal also had similar opinion.

Youth Congress leader and former MP Satyajitsinh Gaekwad and the GPCC senior executive member Dalsukh Prajapati told Express Newsline that the delay would certainly help Congress make a comeback. They said they had had adequate time to do proper canvassing and inform the people about the ill-deeds of BJP. They, however, sought a stricter check on the BJP `tactics' before polls to `engineer' populist moves.

President of the district unit of RJP, Dr Rajendrasinh Rathod welcomed the EC step but alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party had already started indulging all sorts of gimmicks to woo voters such as giving advertisements of its so-called achievements in the media, the parties like RJP would have enough time to `expose' the failures of the BJP. ``Moreover, the sympathy the BJP has today will also vanish,'' he said and added that RJP would out with flying colours in the ensuing polls even as it had been decided to give the party ticket to Upendrasinh Gohil.
