New water proposal
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, May 4: Chairman of the Water Works Committee in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), Pandu Yadav, has urged the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) to provide electricity to certain city water tanks through the feeder lines to maintain proper water supply. Yadav told Express Newsline that on several occasions those drawing water from the Panigate, Jail, and other tanks receive water at a low pressure or even get water late as the electricity is cut off either for maintenance or due to breakdowns. People unnecessarily have to face problems for no fault of theirs, Yadav said, adding that if water tanks are connected with feeder lines there would be no interruption in power supply. This was stated in Yadav's letter to the GEB written two days ago.Claiming that his demand had received a favourable response from Board chairman Nalin Bhatt, Yadav added that VMC officers, including in-charge City Engineer B S Trapasia, would soon meet GEB officials to work out the details and the feasibility of supplying electricity in such a manner. Yadav said that the situation calls for concern, particularly in summer. He added that if required, transformers and associated equipment could be installed to handle the high feeder voltages (usually 11 KV). Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
