127 girls given aid
A total 127 young girls of Bardoli taluka of the district have benefited from a state government financial aid scheme `Kuwarbai Mameru Yojna' that provides assistance to young girls at the time of their marriage. In all cash worth Rs 6.35 lakhs were distributed to the families of young girls. According to a release, while 87 of the girls were adivasis, 30 were of the scheduled castes and another 10 coming under the Baxi Panch. The funds were distributed by the Bardoli taluka Social Welfare office. Each girl about to get married is given Rs 5000 cash besides other funds under the yojna.Narmada bond
The social defence department has rewarded at least 10 newly married couples with a Rs 1000 Narmada bond each, under the `Satt Phera Samuh Lagna' scheme.
Free travel
The state government has announced free travel for the companion of handicapped people in state transport service. A companion travelling with a person, who has more than 75 per cent physical disability, would be given 50 per cent relief, while those travelling with the visually impaired will be allowed to travel free. Those with the mentally retarded will also be given 50 per cent relief.
