KEM doctor held on charges of assault

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, MAY 6: A senior resident doctor from KEM Hospital was recently arrested on charges of assaulting a colleague who refused his advances.

Dr Vivek Aurora (28), a resident doctor attached to the neonatalogy unit of the hospital was accused of assaulting Dr Sneha Mohile (26), also a resident doctor attached to the haematology unit. The two were reported to be close for sometime, according to the police.

However, in the beginning of last month, Mohile found out that Aurora was already married and even had a child, according to Bhimrao Gaikwad, assistant police inspector, Bhoiwada police station. She then avoided and refused to have any relationship with him. Aurora refused to give up on her and continued to pester her with requests to carry on with the relationship, the police added.

On April 16, Aurora arrived at the hospital quarters where Mohile stayed to persuade her to continue their affair. When she refused his overtures, he assaulted her and twisted her hand leading to a fracture of her wrist.Aurora also threatened to kill her if she informed about the incident to anyone.

Mohile was admitted at the KEM hospital for a couple of days for treatment of her fractured wrist. When enquired, she had informed the doctors that she fell and hurt herself. Finally, after she was discharged, she went home and informed her father, who already knew about the affair and approved of the match, about how it had all ended with a threat of death to her.

Immediately after he came to know about the threat to his daughter's life, Sneha's father Waman Mohile filed a complaint against Dr Vivek Aurora who was arrested on April 27. The doctor was later released on bail, Gaikwad informed.

A senior official from KEM Hospital confirmed that Dr Aurora had been arrested adding that a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the accused. Further action will be taken against Dr Aurora depending on the outcome of the inquiry, he added.
