Court asks institute to stop carcass burning

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, May 6: Vadodara Civil Judge (senior division) A.G. Rawal has restrained the State Government-owned Vaccine Institute from using an oil furnace to burn animal carcasses following a complaint lodged by residents of the Old Padra Road where the Institute is located.

Deepak Sadashiv Ghag and Jayesh Patel, residents of Mahalaxmi Society located opposite the Vaccine Institute, had filed a complaint in the civil court stating that use of the furnace to dispose of dead animals by the Institute caused public nuisance and could affect the health of people staying nearby.

In their complaint, Ghag and Patel stated that despite the Institute having erected a 190 feet tall chimney, the pollution from the burning carcasses spread across an area of 20 km. They said that a very pungent odour came from the Institute which caused inconvenience to residents living in the pre-dominantly residential and commercial surroundings.
