Ashish, Shafiq star in LG Electronics win

NEW DELHI, May 6: The combined efforts of medium pacer Ashish Malhotra (4 for 18) and stylish batsman Shafiq Khan (59 not out) helped L G Electronics score a seven-wicket win over Employees Provident Fund Office in the inaugural Goswami Girdhari Lal memorial tournament at Ramjas sports complex in West Patel Nagar here today.

Despite the presence of some Ranji players in its ranks, EPFO could manage only 178 for seven in their stipulated 40 overs. Himachal Ranji star Nischal Gaur top-scored with 47 while Raj Kapoor (27), Parinder Sharma (23) and Pritam (20) were the other main contributors.

Medium pacer Ashish Malhotra claimed four wickets while Kuldip Singh and Subhash Chaudhary chipped in with two apiece.

Powered by two unbeaten knocks from Shafiq Khan and Subhash Chaudhary (37), L G Electronics reached the target for the loss of three wickets in only 36.2 overs.

Ashish Malhotra and Shafiq Khan were jointly declared man of the match.

LG Electronics will take on winners of the match between Sahara India and Delhi Blues.

Brief scores: EPFO: 178 for 7 in 40 overs (Nischal Gaur 47, Raj Kapoor 27, Pritam 20, Parinder Sharma 23, Ashish Malhotra 4 for 18, Kuldip Singh 2 for 24, Subhash Chaudhary 2 for 24). LG Electronics: 182 for 3 in 36.2 overs (Shafiq Khan 59 not out, Naveen Asrani 22, Subhash Chaudhary 37 not out).

LPS summer cricket camp
Laxman Cricket Academy of former India batsman and national selector Vijay Mehra will organise a summer coaching camp for juniors in the 8-16 age group at the school grounds at Hauz Khas Extension from May 15 to June 7. Laxman Cricket Academy has been participating in a number of inter-school tournaments in the Capital.
