Hingwe had nurtured the library from the time its creation in 1949 right upto 1975 when he retired. In this long association, Hingwe enjoyed a warm relationship with the 10 vice-chancellors under whom he worked.

It is to Hingwe's guidance and initiative that the UoP owes the establishment of the department of library science and information. Hingwe also authored several books on the subject in Marathi. A disciplinarian who believed in the value of learning, Hingwe had often confessed that he was happiest when he saw the library that he had built so carefully being used by the students. He will continue to live on in the memory of those whose lives he touched and in the legacy of the library that he built.

Just can't get enough
After the various signature campaigns undertaken at several places in the city, the songs composed, the contests and the phew, pop concerts organised to enthuse the Indian cricket team, here comes another one. LG - the official sponsor of the World Cup '99 - has designed a special cricket bat that is 30 feet long and the best part is that cricket lovers can sign and write messages for (who else?) the Indian Cricket team. This massive bat will tour the city on May 8 and 9. The first day it will go along Pyramids (Koregaon Park), Dhole Patil Road, Station Road, M.G. Road, East Street before finally halting at Domino's Pizza between 12.30 and 4 p.m. On the second day, this convoy will tour around Nal Stop, Karve Road, Deccan, J.M. Road, F.C. Road, Bhandarkar Road, University, Shivajinagar and then PMC. The four-hour halt will be at Domino's Pizza, Senapati Bapat Road. So those of you who want to wish the Indian team, follow the bat.
