Devangi lifts under-8 crown

PUNE, May 7: Pune's Soumitra Majumdar bagged the runners-up position with an aggregate of 6.5 points in the Nutan Buddhibal Mandal organised state under-12 chess tournament in memory of the late Abasaheb Ganu at Sangli recently.

Soumitra finished behind Yogesh Mapari of Aurangabad, who accumulated seven points. Two more Pune players finished among the top five. Kruttika Nadig and Akshay Raj Kore were placed third and fourth respectively, while Nashik's Rishav Kapoor with six points was placed at fifth spot.

Meanwhile in the under-8 section, another Pune player Devangi Patankar did the city proud, winning the crown with seven points against the possible eight.
