Sale of mill lands -- Unions impeding State decision

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, MAY 8: The State Government has not been able to decide on the sale of surplus textile mill lands mainly because of the hurdles created by workers' unions but would take some decision before the general election, Chief Minister Narayan Rane said today. He had promised to take an early decision on the issue as soon as he took office on February 1.

The ministerial committee that he had constituted had not yet submitted its report but that was not stopping the decision, he said. Workers' unions did not totally believe the government and argued that the strategies now being discussed to sell land would not yield any benefits to workers.

The State does not want to leave any group out of the decision-making process, Rane added.
