IWHF names 30 probables

NEW DELHI: A women's junior hockey team will tour the United States for a four-nation hockey tournament from June 24-27, Indian Women's Hockey Federation (IWHF) said.

IWHF named 30 probables from which the team would be picked on June 21. The probables will undergo a coaching camp from May 15 to June 21 before the women's body picks final team, the release added. The junior team will also participate in Guru Nanak Cup in the US from July 3-5, it said.

Goalkeepers: Rebika Devi (Manipur), Suman Doswal (Railways), Neha (Delhi), Amandeep Kaur (Punjab). Full backs: Suman Bala (Haryana), Pushpa Pradhan (Bihar), Poonam (UP), Sarita Khetri (Delhi), Neelima Kujur (Orissa). Half-backs: Gurpreet Kaur (Haryana), Agnecia Lugun (Orissa), Elena Christy (Karnataka), Manju, Babita (both Delhi), Mridula (UP), Sunita (Haryana), Monika Rana (Punjab). Forwards: Meenakshi, Surinder Kaur, Simarjit Kaurm, Kiran Bala (all Haryana), Sanggai Ibemhal Chanu,Pakpi Devi (both Railways), Nishi (Chandigarh), Masira Surin, Adlina Korketta (both Bihar), Asrita Toppo (Orissa), Priya Singh (UP), Sushila Sharma (Delhi). India finish fifth at Asia Pacific

CALCUTTA: India finished fifth in the 21st Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship at Yangon with a cumulative score of 926 after Thailand (874), Chinese Taipei (895), Korea (902) and hosts Myanmar (905), according to reports reaching the Indian Golf Union here.

On the final day, both the Indian juniors scored an identical one over 73 and with sub-junior Ranjit Singh's improved showing, India recorded the third best team score of the day.

Final team scores: Thailand 874, Chinese Taipei 895, Korea 902, Myanmar 905, India 926, Malaysia 934 and Philippines 950.

Jeev Milkha tied for 10th position

NEW DELHI: Jeev Milkha Singh fired a two-under 69 in the second round of the Novotel Perrier French Open at the Golf du Medoc,Bordeaux, France on Friday, to set himself for another good finish. At the end of the second round, the 27-year-old Indian was joint 10th with five under 137.

Jeev, who started at the 10th hole on a windy morning, got four birdies and two bogeys. In fact, he started with a birdie before playing par for the next eight holes. Jeev, however, returned a bogey on the first hole, but made up adequately with birdies on seventh and ninth. Play had to be stopped for 50 minutes after a lightening threat.

Australia drub India, play SA in final

MUMBAI: Australia will play South Africa in Sunday's final of a four-nation women's hockey tournament at Perth, Australia, after beating India 5-1.

It was Australia's sixth consecutive win in matches played in Canberra and Perth. Earlier, South Africa beat South Korea 3-1 to finish second and advance to the final.
