VIJAYAWADA, MAY 10: The CB-CID team, headed by Superintendent of Police Lakshminarayana, has started its inquiry into the controversial case involving the death of a woman in custody at the all women police station here on Thursday last.The team, comprising Deputy Superintendent of Police and Investigating Officer Ramakrishna Paramahams, Eluru DSP Umamaheswara Rao and two other inspectors visited the police station yesterday, where the woman, Konakrishna Kumari, had allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself.
The team also questioned Sub-Inspector Jyothi attached to the all women police station and Sub-Inspector K Suryachandra Rao of the Payakapuram Police Station, from where the victim was shifted on May 5.
The team verified the panchanama of the case.
Congress (I) leaders, including P Upendra, MP, party city unit president Jaleelkhan, MLA D Nehru, and party activists observed a fast in front of the sub-collector's office here today, demanding the dismissal of the police officials concerned inconnection with the death.
They were also demanding the dismissal of Deputy Commissioner of Police M Sathyanarayana Rao and Suryachandra Rao for their alleged involvement in the crime.
Konakrishna Kumari (35) was found hanging from the ventilator in the lock-up ceiling in the all women police station here.
Addressing party workers, Upendra criticised the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government for the increasing number of custodial deaths in the State.
