SURAT, May 10: A team of surgeons headed by Dr K C Jain have successfully performed a rare endoscopic neuro-surgery on a 12-year-old boy who is currently recuperating at the Surat General Hospital here. Dr Jain claimed that this is possibly the first such operation in the region. The patient had a malignant tumour near the brain stem, which was not allowing the cerebro-spinal fluid to circulate. According to Dr Jain, he had developed hydrocephalus and was not responding to treatment. He felt sleepy, was unsteady and lacked body posture.
The surgery, which was conducted last week, took close to two hours. Dr Jain stated that he had earlier performed such surgeries at AIIMS, New Delhi.
