Hope for Walker

LONDON: A ruling from the court of arbitration for sport (CAS) may have handed Doug Walker, scotland's European 200m sprint champion, his best hope yet of being cleared on a charge of being a drugs cheat. On Wednesday, the court dismissed a similar case involving Swiss triathlete. Walker said yesterday the ruling "must cast doubt on the validity of these tests."

Keter sets pace at Qatar GP

DOHA (Qatar): South Africa's Hezekielsepeng and Kenya's Joseph Keter ran the fastest outdoor times of the year in their specialist events to set the pace at the Qatar Grand Prix meeting. In the sticky heat of the first full-fledged Grand Prix meeting to be staged in the Middle East, the conditions were expected to suit the sprinters but instead it was the middle distance men from Africa who impressed. Sepeng, the Atlanta Olympics silver medallist over 800m, got to the front with 80m to go and stopped the clock at one minute 44.44 seconds to improve the best in the world this year by morethan half a second.
