Satyapragyan sole leader

SANGLI: Orissa lad S Satyapragyan registered a thumping victory over International Master P Konguvel in the fifth round of the 32nd S K Vaidya Memorial International Rating Chess Tournament here on Friday.

Satyapragyan with 5.0 points is being closely followed by C S Gokhale (IA), T S Ravi (IOC), IM N Sudhakar Babu (Indian Bank) and Vishal Sareen (LIC), All having 4.5 points each. Satyapragyan employed Sicilian Taimanov with black pieces and was up against a maroczy blind set up by Konguvel.

Sensational News for main event

BANGALORE: Mandhu Mangalorkar trained Sensational News who is showing out in the trials, has an excellent chance of landing the spoils in the 1200 metres Krishnaraja Wadiyar Cup, a race for horses rated 40 and above, the main event of the opening day's races to be held here on Saturday. The first race is at 2 p.m.

State eves go down to Kerala

SHILLONG: Maharashtra lost to formidable Kerala, 0-3, in a quarter-final league tie of the All-India Ladies National Football at Shillong on Friday, according to information reaching here. Maharshtra take on Bengal in their next tie on Saturday.

In another tie, Bengal thrashed Bihar, 4-0.

Army Red score

BANGALORE: The ArmyRed team had surged ahead in the Inter Services Handball Championship by notching their second successive win. In a keenly contested affair the Army Red managed to get the better of Army Green by a margin of 22-18.

In the second match of the day Indian Navy defeated Air Force by a margin of 41-27.

Winter Games in Himachal Pradesh

SHIMLA: The National Winter Games and South Asian Federation Winter Games will be held simultaneously in Himachal Pradesh in January next year.

An official spokesman said tentative dates have been fixed for holding ice skating events from January 2 to 6 next, and for skiing from February 3 to 10. Ice skating and skiing will be organised at Shimla and at Manali in Kullu district respectively.

World Cup commentary in Hindi

MUMBAI: ESPN, Star Sports will be relaying Hindi commentary alongwith English of the ongoing cricket World Cup in England. The hindi commentary team includes Arun Lal, Yashpal Sharma, Ravi Kant Singh and Partho Ganguly.
