The Ministry had asked Kejriwal to explain why he had withdrawn Rs 13 crore towards the last installment for World Cup licence fees to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Now that they know the sum is higher, officials in the Ministry are alarmed and Minister Pramod Mahajan has also asked for a probe into this ``unauthorised expenditure''. DD officials say the higher amount was to cover a Rs 7.55 crore shortfall on account of payment for the rights of the Sharjah Cup in April.

Though Kejriwal had asked the Prasar Bharati board that he be allowed to quit, the former said he should allow enough time for a replacement. But it is by no means certain now that the AppointmentsCommittee of Cabinet will clear Kejriwal's name for director, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.

In another twist now, Nimbus has approached the Bombay High Court with a petition that Prasar Bharati be directed not to deposit its cheque of Rs 12.5 crore drawn on the Global Trust Bank as it has already received the amount from advertisers. Nimbus has now argued that Prasar Bharati is ``wrongfully retaining the cheque'' and that Prasar Bharati is attempting to breach their contract and is ``fraudulently and dishonestly trying to recover or collect from the petitioner the sum of Rs 12.5 crore twice over''. Nimbus has also demanded that the amounts collected by Stracon be made public.
