CHANDIGARH, MAY 21: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the transfer of Kiran Bedi as Chandigarh inspector general of police to Delhi recently.A division bench comprising Justices R S Mongia and J S Narang held that the petitioner, city-based `Lawyers' Initiative', has no locus standi to file the PIL, and it can be done only by the aggrieved party.
The petitioner submitted that Bedi, who took over as IGP Chandigarh on April 5 this year, recently received a four-line transfer order from the Union Home Ministry.
Bedi, during her short stay in the city as IGP, had improved the police functioning and police personnel did not dare accept bribes during the period, the petitioner claimed.
