The panel, including Yogesh Mashe, Dr Hanumant Chawan, Dr Dilip Patil and Dr A B Patil, has submitted its report to District Collector Nitin Karir.

The committee reached the conclusion that Rohit's mother was told to buy costly medicines while her child was fighting for life. ``Had she had money, she would not have admitted her son in civil hospital. Doctors expressed their inability for further treatment without the medicines. This is what poor people get to hear in Sangli civil hospital,'' says the report.

When the resident medical officer opposed the doctors' action, he was told by the doctors that he had no business to guide them in this matter. When Rohit's condition deteriorated, his motherwas asked to move him to Mumbai. The boy breathed his last at J J hospital in Mumbai.

The report also says that there was a lack of co-ordination between officers and doctors in the hospital. Committee has criticised doctors in the hospital. Wanjare, Karmarkar, Jadhav and Yadav who treated Rohit are accused of negligence in this case.

District Collector Karir terming the incident as a ``serious matter'' called for punishing the doctors and the dean of the hospital. No one should defend them for their irresponsible behaviour, he said, adding that the teacher who bashed the boy was mainly responsible for his death.
