MUMBAI, MAY 21: The police will take its crime prevention campaign to citizens' doorsteps, literally. Door stickers will be distributed free to polics stations and homes in south Mumbai as part of an aggressive preventive education series initiated by Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham in view of increased crimes in this zone. The stickers contain Do's and Don'ts as well as numbers of police stations. For instance, residents are reminded not to open their doors without identifying the visitor, or to use a chain lock before opening the door completely. At least 10,000 stickers have been distributed to police stations in Malabar Hill, Gamdevi and Tardeo, and will also be issued to residents of housing societies.
Crime prevention is on top of the police agenda because of increasing incidents against single women and old couples. ``We want residents to be more alert and safety conscious,'' said Venkatesham.
To pick up stickers, contact inspectors Joe Gaikwad at Gamdevi (phone 3803505), MeenaBerde at Malabar Hill (3635513) or Athyale at Tardeo (4942142).
