MUMBAI, MAY 21: Borivli Rangers defeated BPCL Refinery 5-0 in the Air-India football tournament, conducted by MDFA, at the St Xavier's ground, Parel, today.Rangers, a young side, combined well and scored early in the ninth minute. Valenky Rodrigues crossed from the left and Prasan Khadapkar beat Refineries goalkeeper Shushil Kumar Brahma hands down.
Thereafter, Rangers pounded the rival defence but Refineries' defender Stanney was mainly responsible in containing the rival forwards.
IIn the second-half, the Rangers attack went on the rampage.
In the 37th minute, a 40-yard powerful shot by Neil Miranda struck the far post before entering in the Refineries goal.
In the 40th minute, Agnel Fernandes took a shot at the Refineries goal and goalkeeper Brahma parried the shot. But fortunately for Rangers, their forward Valenky Rodrigues was at hand and made the most of the rebound (3-0).
Five minutes later, Collin Miranda's shot was onece again parried by goalkeeper Brahma. But the ball slipped out ofBrahma's hands and Agnelo Fernandes tapped home from close range.
The last Rangers' goal came in the 64 minute. Once again, an Agnelo Fernandes attempt rebounded into play after crashing onto the post and Sriniwas Meghraj made the most of the rebound by scoring from close range.
