Good response to academy

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, May 21: ``The academy will give an opportunity to the budding cricketers of the township to hone their skill,'' said Sukhwinder Tinkoo, who is one of the coaches involved at the cricket academy launched by the Mohali Cricket Association at SAS Nagar.

The majority of the players, who have got themselves enrolled with the academy are from SAS Nagar. However, some players from Chandigarh are also coming to avail the facilities. ``It is good that the academy has come up here. Now I will get opportunity to practise on the turf,'' said a sixth class student, who earlier had to come to Chandigarh for training.

Though, the academy was launched a few days back, the response it drew from the players augur well for the game in the area. The number of players, who were going through the paces at the academy today were over hundred. However, more and more players are still coming forward to get themselves registered. But the organisers want to restrict the number. `Once we reach the target, which is 120, we will not register more players,'' said one of the officials of the academy.

The registration fee is Rs 500 while the monthly fee is Rs 100 per player. The trainees are divided into three groups. The first group is for under-12 while under-14 is the second group. The third group comprises players, who are under-16.

Former Punjab Ranji Player Arun Sharma is also imparting training to the players at the academy.
