Ban on NLFT, ATTF extended

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
AGARTALA, MAY 23: The Union Home Ministry has extended the ban on two major insurgent outfits -- National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) -- for another six months for their involvement in anti-national activities in the state.

A Home Ministry notification said both the organisations had been involved in killings, abductions and fuelling communal tension in the region and the state compelling the innocent people to live in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, official sources said here today.

Both the militant outfits were banned by the Centre on the recommendation of the state government under Terrorist Activities prevention Act, 1967 in April 1997 following a series of killings, arson, and abductions in the state.
