Advani attends valedictory function
Union Home Minister L K Advani attended the valedictory function of the 86th Grishma Shibir, organised at Saputara's Rutambhara Vishwa Vidyapith on Saturday. Various cultural programmes were organised as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the institute. Speaking on the occasion, the Home Minister said before his party assumed power at the Centre it was dangerous to visit Kashmir. The situation had improved so much that close to 1.25 lakh pilgrims visited Kashmir and Amarnath in the recent past, Advani claimed.

SGCCI awards
The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Golden Jubilee Memorial Trust has invited applications from entrepreneurs for its awards for 1998-99. For outstanding export performance, the applications are invited from entrepreneurs in textiles, diamonds, plastics, chemicals, engineering, jari, textile SSI, chemical SSI, and engineering SSI. The general award will be given for the outstanding pollution control programme, excellence in productivity, outstanding energy conservation performance and outstanding social welfare programme. The last date for sending in entries to SGCCI is May 28.

SMC union
Office-bearers of the Surat Mahanagarpalika Staff Union have been elected for 1999-2000, an official release said. Ratilal Damakia has been appointed president, D J Goswami vice-president, F M Malek general secretary and S A Parvatia treasurer. Another 15 members of the working committee have also been appointed unanimously, the statement said.

Medical camp
Surat Shahar Gamit Samaj Kalyan Sangathan and Akhil Gujarat Gamit Samaj Mandal have organised a free medication camp on May 30 at the Sarita Nagar Hall in Vyara town, a statement issued here said. The camp will begin at 9 am and will continue up to 5 pm.
