NEW DELHI, MAY 23: Seeking divine intervention, Sonia Gandhi's supporters on Sunday started a unique mahayagnya here in their bid to persuade her to withdraw her resignation as Congress president.Hundreds of party activists led by National Human Rights Council president Subhash Gupta participated in the mahayagnya, organised in front of Jawahar Bhawan, with priests offering ahuti to the sacred fire amidst chanting of hymns.
The participants prayed that Gandhi withdraws her resignation, for which she was constantly being persuaded by her supporters who have been on hunger-strike and sitting in dharnas for the past few days.
Meanwhile, Delhi Education Minister Narendra Nath, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Salman Khurshid and hundreds of party workers joined the on-going dharna in front of the party workers here.
The party leadership had rushed circulars to all the Congress members of Parliament, State party chiefs and office-bearers and others urging them to participatein the AICC special session to be held at Talkatora Stadium in the Capital on Tuesday.
