Case against ex-SC judge

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 26: The State Government on Tuesday filed a suit to recover Rs 48,77,540 from former Supreme Court judge K S Paripoornan, and his brothers Padmanabhan and Narasimhan in a land deal case.

The suit filed in the sub-court here by Government pleader M Rajagopalan Nair contended that Justice Paripoornan and brothers had refused to pay back an excess of Rs 19,65,248 lakh in connection with the land acquired from them for Vizhinjam harbour, in spite of a High Court direction which was subsequently ratified by the Supreme Court.

They obtained the excess amount after a favourable decree by the sub-court in 1986. Despite nullification of the decree by the higher courts, Paripoornan and his brothers refused to pay back the amount. The Government filed the suit to recover the amount with 12 per cent interest per year, from 1986 onwards.

The total amount of Rs 59,74,967 received by Paripoornan and his brothers in 1986 for the land as per the lower court decree was nullified by the High Courtin 1989 and the Supreme Court in 1994.
