Advani failed to utilise MP's fund, says RJP

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, May 26: RJP has alleged that out of the Rs 1 crore MP's fund allotted to the Union Home Minister L K Advani for the development of his Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency during the financial year 1998-99, Rs 80,66,712 has lapsed.

"This shows how much Advani, who is holding the number two position in the Central Cabinet cares for the people of his constituency," RJP spokesman Prof Kishorsinh Solanki said in a release on Wednesday.

He said that out of the total fund of Rs 1 crore, Advani was able to utilise only Rs 8,36,288 lakh and Rs 11 lakh for the development of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad respectively.

"Keeping in view this indifference of Advani towards the people of his constituency, we urge them to ensure that he is defeated in the ensuing Lok Sabaha elections," Solanki said.

Not only Advani, but most of the BJP MPs from Gujarat, had failed to make maximum utilisation of the funds allotted to them by the Centre. "As per the official data for the year 93-94 to 96-97, the Central Government had allotted Rs 53.30 crore for the Gujarat MPs. But they could utilise only Rs 17.64 crore and as a result a whopping sum of Rs 36.66 crore has lapsed," Solanki said.

As far as the financial year `97-98 was concerned, the Centre had allocated Rs 43 crore for development of the Lok Sabha constituencies of Gujarat.
