AHMEDABAD, May 26: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation sent a 70-member team comprising labourers, officers and employees of the Health and Central Workshop Department to carry out cleaning work in cyclone-hit areas. According to officials, more than 50,000 cattle had died in the storm and their caresses were lying scattered all over the villages, posing severe health hazard in the areas. On Monday, the State Government sought help from the AMC to which the officials agreed.The AMC team left for Bhuj at 6 pm on Wednesday where the cyclone had played havoc last week. The team, headed by Deputy Health Officer R R Chhablani, comprised seven sanitary sub-inspectors, five Mukadam, 50 labourers, transport inspectors, helpers, mechanical fitters and drivers.
The team will also assist the relief works being carried out by the State Government agencies and voluntary organisations in the affected areas. The team will burn carcasses, spray insecticides and distribute medicines to the villagers.
The team was provided two JCB machines, eight trucks, one breakdown van, a jeep and tractor, one drinking water tanker and 4000 kg of insecticides.
