EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, May 26: The Punjab University Research Promotion Committee, in its meeting today recommended compiling a university research directory and setting up of a research corner in the AC Joshi Library.

The meeting was chaired by Dean University Instructions (DUI) Prof I.B.S. Passi and attended by 11 others. Sources said that other decisions today include encouraging discussion groups through monetary grants, strengthening MPhil and pre-PhD research and gathering and disbursing information on weekly and monthly seminars on the campus. This, said committee convenor Dr Satya P Gautam, was being done to encourage "interdepartmental interaction."

Dr Gautam added that it was decided that college teachers would also be encouraged to take up research. It was also decided that the university faculty members would deliver lectures in city colleges, at the request of the Dean College Development Council, to apprise the students of contemporary knowledge, sources said.

Grants for holding seminars were also recommended to be cleared for seven departments, it was added.
