Proteas make short work of clueless Kenyans

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
AMSTELVEEN, MAY 26: Favourites South Africa defeated their unheralded African counterparts Kenya by seven wickets in yet another exhibition of their overall class in a one-sided World Cup Group `A' encounter here today.

Paceman Lance Klusener claimed the tournament's first five wicket haul by capturing 5 for 21 as the Proteas shot out Kenya for 152 in 44.3 overs after putting them in at this venue in the Dutch capital.

South Africa coasted to 153 for three with nine overs to spare as Jacques Kallis (44 not out) and Daryll Cullinan (35 not not) finished in style with an unfinished fourth wicket stand.

South Africa registered their fourth straight win to go on top of the Group table and now can hope to round of their league engagement with an all-win record when they meet Zimbabwe in their last tie on May 29 at Chelmsford.

Kenya will complete their World Cup engagements with a tie against defending champions Sri Lanka at Southampton on May 30.

All-rounder Lance Klusener, South Africa's hero with the bat in previous matches, showed his bowling talents just when Kenya looked to be heading towards a big score.

Steve Elworthy and Allan Donald both picked up two wickets but it was Klusener who took the centre stage.

South Africa's fifth bowler took the three subsequent wickets, including the vital scalp of Steve Tikolo, who mistimed a slower delivery to Hansie Cronje at mid-off. He finished with five for 21 off 8.3 overs to become the tournament's leading wicket taker with 12.
