Defender Sane furthers dream run

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, May 26: Top seed Vikrant Sane, ranked number one in the Nationals under-14 years age group, went a step further in his dream run towards a defending his U-16 and U-14 title at the Adidas Junior National Ranking Tennis tournament after he brought down his opponents with ease to reach the last four stage.

With an early sun shining at the PYC Gymkhana courts, the Pune lad subdued Mumbai's Sujay Mahadevan 6-1, 6-2 in the under-14 quarter-finals and then followed it up with an equally comfortable 6-4, 6-2 win against Shashank Kulkarni in the U-16 quarters.

The V K Patil school student, who had won both the titles at the first leg in Mumbai last week, now plays seventh seed Rishi Behl in the U-14 semis and second seed Vivek Jhaveri in U-16 semis tomorrow. The other semi-finalists in the U-14 section are: No. 2 Saurabh Kohli and No. 4 Krishna Tanna, while No. 1 Rohan Gajjar and No. 4 Gavryl Fernandis make up the U-16 semi-final line up. Krishna Tanna was given a run for his money before he stopped the giant killing spree of unseeded Pune boy Arjun Vaidya today. The tall Mumbai lad Tanna took the first set without dropping a point, but was tasted to his grits in the second before winning it 7-5.
