Ahuja's brother gets Govt job

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan State Electricity Board has given Vijay Ahuja, the younger brother of Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja who was killed in the Kargil operations, a job. An RSEB release said Vijay Ahuja has been appointed junior engineer and posted at the thermal power project in Kota where his family is settled.

PARIS: Steffi Graf, the 29-year-old German who missed the last couple of seasons due to a string of injuries, made a remarkable comeback by winning her sixth French Open Women's singles title, defeating Switzerland's Martina Hingis 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the final on Saturday.

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Government is preparing for the June 19 visit here of Prime Minister A B Vajpayee in connection with the inauguration of a bus service between Dhaka and Calcutta, official sources said today.

Child burnt alive

NEW DELHI: A one-and-a-half-year-old child was burnt alive and another injured in a fire that brokeout in a North Delhi slum, fire services sources said. The fire started from a hut at around 18.20 pm in Azadpur Thada godown slums and soon engulfed adjoining huts, they said, adding 100 jhuggis were destroyed.

Goa counting

PANAJI: COUNTING of votes in 39 Assembly constituencies that went to the polls yesterday will be taken up at 8 am today. Elections were held for 20 constituencies in South Goa and 19 in North Goa with one seat already won by the Congress unopposed in the 40-member House.

New party

PATNA: Former Lok Sabha member Anand Mohan today launched a new political outfit, the Bihar Peoples' Party. He told the party was in touch with JD leader Ram Vilas Paswan and Samata Party leader Shakuni Choudhary to evolve a consensus on ``how to challenge the misrule of the Rabri Devi Govt in Bihar''.
