New Delhi, June 5: As Kargil has pushed the political crisis facing the Haryana Government on the back-burner, intense behind-the-scene lobbying is on in the rival camps -- the ruling Haryana Vikas party (HVP) and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) -- for BJP support. The HVP camp, exuding confidence, claims the crisis created by threat of the BJP withdrawing from the coalition government, will blow over soon. The INLD leaders, however, say they will continue mounting presssure on the BJP at the Centre to pull out from the HVP-BJP Government led by Bansi Lal to facilitate early elections.
Claiming full support of the Central BJP, the Bansi supporters see no reason for party pulling out from the government. ``If the Samata Party and the BJP can stay together after George Fernandes views on Kargil were rejected by the majority of the BJP leaders, why can't we?'' asked a senior HVP leader in Delhi. ``After all there are no preceptional differences between us (BJP and HVP)''. Bansi supporters claim theintensity of revolt by the BJP unit was tapering off.
However, Haryana observers, say the opinion of leader in question, Ram Vilas Sharma, Education Minister in Bansi Government, cannot be overlooked easily as he is a heavy-weight. On the other hand Ajay Chautala, the son of INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala, has held talks with Sharma and state BJP chief Om Prakash Grover recently. Ajay, an INLD legislator from Rajasthan, has reportedly told his partymen the BJP leaders have set a new deadline of mid-June for pulling down the Bansi Lal Government.
Meanwhile, the central BJP leadership, slated to discuss the issue raised by the state leaders, is postponing the meeting due to Kargil. Sources said the central leadership is facing a dilemma in the State. A central team, which was sent to Haryana has opined against withdrawal of support. The report ``focused on long-term adverse fallout of betrayal of a trusted friend (Bansi) on the electoral prospectus of the BJP in the state and elsewhere,' ' they added.
