CHANDIGARH, JUNE 5: The Communist Party of India (CPI) in Punjab is likely to have a tie-up with the Congress in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. At a recent meeting of the CPI secretariat the party decided to adopt a strategy to unite the secular and democratic forces to defeat the Akali Dal-BJP combine. The final decision will be taken at a three-day meeting of its state council, starting June 16. The meet will discuss the options to be given to the state units by the national council, meeting in Calcutta from tomorrow. The council may give state units the green signal to have adjustments at the local level with the secular and democratic forces.
This assumes significance against the background of the options being kept open by the Congress in Punjab. Though the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), earlier this week, had resolved against having an alliance with any political party.
