Srinath top seeded in ITF

AGENCIES
NEW DELHI, June 5: Second-seeded Prahlad Srinath of India today defeated compatriot and third-seeded Syed Fazaluddin 6-4, 6-3 to win the third leg of the ITF Men's Satellite Tennis Circuit.

With this win, Srinath, the Bangalore-leg winner, collects 21 points and displaces Artem Derepasko of Russia as top seed by amassing a total of 52 points from the three legs.

Fazal, who had last defeated Srinath in the second leg at Mumbai, started the match well as he broke Srinath in the third game. But Srinath, who has been playing well throughout the circuit, managed to break back the third seed Fazal in the sixth game, though with some efforts. The game saw five break points, with Srinath converting the last, as Fazal hit a volley out.

Srinath, who slowly picked up his game, then again broke Fazal in the 10th to take the set (6-4) in just over an hour.

The second set saw a strong Srinath who coming on heavily on a sinking Fazal. Srinath broke Fazal in the latter's first two serves, while retaining his own, tohave a lead of 5-0 in the fifth game.

But a late revival by Fazal, who took the next three games, breaking Srinath once, could not help the latter to come back into the game as Srinath took the 10th game at love to win the set (6-3) and the third leg.

Srinath has been top-seeded in the Indian ITF Men's Satellite Masters starting here on June 7, after his stupendous performance over three weeks on the tennis circuit in which he won two titles.
