ERP yet to catch up with industry

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, JUN 6: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), a software package to streamline organisational operations, has not really caught with Indian corporates with only 31 per cent among big companies using or implementing it, according to a survey.

The usage of ERP is even more less with small and medium-sized companies as the percentage of companies which use or implement it ranging between 11 and 20 per cent, the survey by International Data Corporation (IDC) said.

Among the big size firms, companies with a turnover of about Rs 350 crore and above, only 17 per cent were actually using ERP packages and 13.5 per cent were in the midst of implementing it, IDC survey said.

Only 10.3 per cent of biggies showed the intention to adopt ERP in their organisation within next one year, it added. When it came to small and medium companies, the picture was hardly encouraging with only 3.5 per cent and 9.8 per cent showing the intention to adopt ERP in the coming twelve months.

A sectoral analysis showed thatthe automotive and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) firms topped in the usage of ERP package to spruce up distribution systems and cut operational costs.
