Bina Ramani intimidating witnesses, charges NGO

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, June 6: A non-governmental organisation (NGO) which moved a writ petition in Delhi High Court seeking CBI probe into the Jessica Lal murder case, in its written arguments, has alleged that witnesses were being threatened and intimidated by socialite Bina Ramani and her men.

Mohammed Sajjid, counsel for Bhrashtachar Virodhi Morcha (BVM), during the last hearing before a division bench headed by Justice Anil Dev Singh while quoting media reports submitted that ``a security guard who was posted at tamarind court restaurant (of Ramani) and eye witness to the murder, was brutally beaten.''

``The only guilt of the security guard was that he talked to media persons. Bina Ramani, had terminated from service about half a dozen of restaurant employees,'' Sajjid claimed.

According to the police case, former Union Minister and Congress leader Vinod Sharma's son Manu Sharma had allegedly shot dead model Jessica Lal on the night of April 30 in the ``illegal'' restaurant at Mehrauli in South Delhi after sherefused to serve him liquor. Restaurant owner Ramani and her daughter Malani were present at the restaurant when crime took place, police had claimed. Sajjid in his submission said a guard from ESS security service had told media persons that Ramani had escorted Manu out of the restaurant and asked him to immediately leave the place. But police had so far not bothered to record the statements of these witnesses, he alleged.
