Green congress wraps up international meet

NEW DELHI, JUNE 6: The World Congress on Environment, which concluded here this evening, proposed active synergising with the business world in critical sectors. Over 600 delegates from 22 countries representing eminent environmentalists, industrialists, policy-makers and the media participated in the three-day event. It was organised by the World Environment Foundation and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

The areas for cooperation of Asian and European countries to acheive a cleaner environment through green technologies were identified through intensive discussions. A concrete action plan emerged through this Congress with a time-bound action programme.

While delivering the valedictory address, the deputy chairman, Planning Commission, K.C. Pant, congratulated the organisers for providing a platform to bring about adequate interaction between environmentalists and the industry.

Five technical sessions were orgainsed which were chaired by Ramesh Chandra, executive director, The Times of India, Vinod Vaish, special secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests, P.P. Prabhu, union secreatary, Ministry of Commerce and A. Bhattacharya, director general, World Environment Foundation.
