AHMEDABAD, June 6: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticised the Congress for its attempt to draw political mileage out of the Kargil crisis. Terming as ``irresponsible'' Congress leaders' statements, the BJP's State unit said they were damaging to the morale of the armed forces. The party urged the Congress to draw a line.Discussing the Kargil conflict at its meeting in Himmatnagar, the BJP State unit condoled the death of Indian soldiers killed while flushing out intruders from Kargil sector. While congratulating the country's armed forces, Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and Indian Air Force pilot Fl Lt Nachiketa, the party also warned Pakistan against any attempt to infringe India's sovereignty. ``BJP workers and people of the country are prepared to fight for the country.''
The BJP statement said the Congress was criticising the armed forces instead of rallying behind them. By criticising the BJP-led government on defence issues, the Congress was damaging the national interest, the statement said.
Blaming the Congress for the turmoil in Kashmir, the BJP said that it was during Congress rule that terrorists holed up in Charar-e-Sharief shrine in Kashmir were served biriyani.
