Mayor to lay stone for
SMC scheme
Mayor Savitaben Sharda will lay the foundation stone of a scheme under which SMC will construct houses for the economically weaker sections of the society on Monday. The houses will be constructed on Final Plot No 121 near Bhagyalakshmi Society in Piplod. She will also preside over a function to unveil the statue of Maharana Pratap, which has been installed in front of D K M Hospital on the Kotsafil Road. Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana will unveil the statue at 10 am on June 16.

Invited to UK
Managing partner of Enviro Control Associates Nimesh Vashi has been invited by the British High Commission to take part in a group meeting in the UK. He will hold discussion with leading British companies and experts on development of modern treatment technology, waste recycling and energy generation from solid waste and sewage; and whether the systems could be put into use in India. He has left for the UK.

Officials warned
Minister of State for Agriculture Bahecharbhai Bhadani has warned that government officials associated with agricultural departments will be heavily penalised if they were found showing laxity in their work. Bhadani issued the warning while addressing agriculture officials from Surat, Navsari, Valsad and Dangs district here on Saturday. In response to a representation, he said vacant posts in Gujarat Agriculture University's Navsari centre and the horticulture/agriculture departments would be filled soon.

Cong allegation
Congress councillor Bhupendra Solanki has alleged that the appointment of Pradipsinh Jhala as deputy commissioner (special) is illegal as the post is reserved for ST candidates. In a letter to the additional chief secretary (urban development and urban housing department), he claimed that the appointment also disregarded a Gujarat High Court ruling.
