Mumbai, Jun 8: The Bombay High Court adjourned for Friday a clutch of three petitions filed by councillors of the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Council, challenging the state government's decision to extend the terms of the president of the council from a year to two-and-a-half.Arguing that the 30 April, 1999 Government Resolution extending the term was ultra vires and should be stayed, counsel for one of the petitioners, Niteen Pradhan said by this the state would not be able to accommodate the five categories for whom reservations had been made for the seat and that the existing president would continue till the end of the term of the council - 2001.
The matter, after being part heard by the division bench of Justice A V Sawant and Justice R J Kochar has been adjourned to Friday.
