EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, June 10: The Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi today continued its evening session of musical programmes. Performances were conducted by singers _ Jagat Ram Lalka and party and a ghazal performance by Krishan Lal here.

The programme at the Punjab Kala Bhawan was well-attended in spite of the oppressive weather.

Jagat Ram Lalka and party of Ambala started their show and presented various legendary melodies _ Jaimal Phatta, Sohni Mahiwal, "Heer-Ranjha, Dhol Sammi, Pir Muradia and Veer Jodhan, of which, the first was the most appreciated. Another item which drew a response was the sound of traditional Punjabi instruments such as algoza, dotara and chimta.

In the second part of the programme, Krishan Lal of Kotkapura sang ghazals of Ghulam Ali, which were also liked by the audience.

New Akademi secretary Prof Rajpal Singh said the akademi wanted to preserve folk arts from vanishing and was recording each performance in order to set up a library dedicated for folk arts.
