Five held for dowry death

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NASHIK, June 13: Five members of a family were arrested for allegedly burning to death a 22-year-old woman who failed to get them a dowry of Rs 50,000 here yesterday.

Police said Kamini's father-in-law Dattatreya, mother-in-law Subhadrabai, husband Anup, brother-in-law Sachin and sister-in-law Padma set her ablaze at their apartment in Nashik Road.

The family members allegedly beat up and harassed Kamini, who was married to Anup in May 1996, and demanded Rs 50,000 from her parents for constructing a bungalow, police said.

All the five were arrested following Kamini's father Ramkrishna's complaint with the Nashik Road police that his daughter was harassed and killed for want of money, police said.

Offences under Sections 302 and 498 of the Indian Penal Code have been filed against them.
