SRINAGAR, June 13: Prime Minister Vajpayee today asserted that India wanted to regain Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) through peaceful means and negotiations. Ruling out use of force to regain PoK captured by Pakistan in 1947-48, the Prime Minister said ``our planning is to regain that area through peaceful means and dialogue''.All issues between India and Pakistan including Jammu and Kashmir would be resolved through dialogue as agreed by the two countries in the Shimla agreement, he told reporters at the end of his hectic day-long tour of Kashmir which took him to Kargil and base hospital at Badamibagh cantonment.
Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, he said, adding there is a parliamentary resolution calling for the return of PoK to India.
Under the Shimla agreement, India and Pakistan have undertaken not to violate the line of control and India has adhered unfailingly to this obligation, Vajpayee said. Unfortunately, the Prime Minister regretted, Pakistan is seeking to cloud the issueof its violation of this solemn understanding by suggesting that there are differences in interpretation of the line of control.
Meanwhile, former army chief Shankar Roy Chowdhury said India should rethink whether it should continue to respect the LoC drawn up by its military authorities with Pakistan in 1972 since Islamabad has questioned its sanctity for the first time in the last 27 years.
``With the intrusion backed by Pakistani forces I feel there is no militarily feasible course of action unless you cross the LoC, whether physically or by artillery fire and air attacks,'' he said.
