ABVP urges govt to fence border

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, June 13: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has urged the state government to fence the porous Gujarat border to check infiltration and claimed that the `enemy' nation was trying its best to violate the border.

Addressing reporters here on Sunday, state secretary Mayur Patel suggested that the Intelligence network in border villages should be beefed up and asked the government to provide Identity cards to the villagers residing within 25 kms of the border.

He said that there should be proper screening before a go-ahead was given to any new developmental project in the border belt. Patel said that in order to ensure over-all development of the border areas, subsidies should be provided to those interested in developmental works.

Patel said that the members of the Parishad have also objected to the present government's stand in encouraging the establishment of more self-financed colleges. ``The fact that the government is encouraging more self-financed colleges in the state shows that they are more interested in encouraging education which involves money'', he said.

The ABVP also advocated the need to increase facilities for girls in various parts of the state. ``Facilities for girls in terms of hostels and free education are lacking in various parts of the state,'' he said. He added that the members had already travelled to various parts of the country and had concluded that there was a need to encourage girls education.

Patel added that the Parishad members would also object if anybody other than a person of the Indian origin ruled the country. He added that it would automatically affect the country's education policy.
