VADODARA, June 13: An amount of Rs 1,20,000 allotted for the Mehsana Project under the Component Plan for 1998-99 was disbursed recently in a function held at Mehsana. The amount would be distributed to various institutions to look after the children of weaker section.According to C Lal, Group General Manager (P), ONGC, who inaugurated the function, such funds were necessary for the upliftment of the people belonging to the weaker section.
FootbaLL Tournament: The ONGC's Employees' Welfare Committee, Vadodara, organised a three-day `Open Baroda Floodlit night Football Tournament' from May 8 to 10 at ONGC Pavilion ground. A `seven-a-side' match tournament, 10 teams participated from in and around Vadodara. Teams included Providence-A, Providence-B, Opal-A, Opal-B, City Boys, Rangers-A, Rangers-B, Bhatt Seven Stars, Super Seven and ONGC-A.
While the final match was played between ONGC-A and Providence-A, ONGC-A won the match by 2-0. The first goal for ONGC was scored by R S Sajwan, and the second goal was made by A K Mandal. The winners trophy was given away by J V Rao, Deputy General Manager (P&A) and the runners-up trophy was presented by Raju Rajpuram, Joint Secretary of Regional Sports Council, ONGC, Vadodara.
The best promising young star trophy was given to Chetan Bahadur from Providence-A team by Rajput, vice-president of Employees' Welfare Committee. From ONGC, A K Mandal was adjudged the `best player of the game' and Udyan Bhatt the `best goalkeeper.'
Financial Assistance: The Uttarakhand Kalyan Samiti recently despatched a cheque of Rs 70,000 to the collector and district magistrate of Chamoli for the people who were affected by the recent devastating earthquake there.
The Samiti formed about four years ago with the active appreciation of ONGC serving and retired employees from Uttarakhand, was conceived to give financial assistance and emotional support to the people of Uttarkhand.
Though Rs 52,000 was collected earlier from people from in and around Vadodara for the purpose, it could not be distributed earlier due to administrative reasons.
